Michael D. Gilmore, CPM®, CCI®,C.C.C., began
his career as a mechanical property manager and utility specialist
in 1964 working for Charles E. Smith Companies in Arlington,
Virginia, then one of Washington's largest management companies,
where he was responsible for the mechanical operation of approximately
30 high-rise office and apartment buildings in Washington, DC
and Maryland. He monitored and reviewed all utilities for 50
buildings and was an instructor for the commercial and residential
engineers school. In 1977, Mr. Gilmore became Director of Property
Management for Lawrence N. Brandt, Inc., a well-known local
owner/developer of condominiums, office buildings and apartments
in Washington, where he was responsible for directing that company's
property-management operations, managing three 300-unit high
rise rental buildings, a 400 unit condominium complex, 61 HOAs
and two commercial office buildings. Mr. Gilmore also helped
develop three condominium/office-building projects in Maryland
and Virginia. He eventually left this position to become Vice
President and General Manager of Dynatemp Incorporated, a mechanical
contracting firm, where he directed the day-to-day operations
of the service and construction department.
Mr. Gilmore joined Zalco in 1987 as its Senior Vice President
of the Company's Commercial Property Management Division, which
at that time consisted of approximately 20 office buildings
in the Washington area. In 1989, he became the Senior Vice President
of the Engineering Division and assumed over-all responsibility
of system trouble-shooting, energy conservation, operations
consultation, contract review, design and specification review
and mechanical and building inspections for all commercial and
residential properties managed by Zalco. He also developed Zalco's
own in-house Operating Engineers School, which provides on-going
education to all on-site maintenance personnel and retained-engineering
services for properties managed by Zalco.
Mr. Gilmore is a Certified Property Manager (CPM), Certified
Construction Inspector (CCI), and Certified Construction Consultant
(CCC). He has attended Prince George's Community College for
Design Engineering, and has been a licensed operating engineer
in the District of Columbia since 1965. He also holds Engineering
Licenses in Maryland and Virginia, and a real-estate salesperson's
license in Maryland. He is a member of IREM, and also the Metropolitan
Heat Pump Association and the Association of Construction Inspectors.
He has also given lectures on building operations, energy conservation
and utility management through IREM, and the Apartment Office
Building Association (AOBA).Owners and Management Association
and The Boland Trane Company, and has received several awards
from the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC) for
his work in water conservation.
Mr.Gilmore is a native of Washington, DC, and currently
resides in Derwood, MD.
